This statement sets outGifted NSW’s policy relating to the privacy of subscribers, visitors and members’ personal information to ensure compliance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Privacy Act) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APP). Inc. appreciates the importance of confidentiality and respects the privacy of its members.

This Privacy Policy explains:

  • what personal information we collect;
  • how we use your personal information;
  • how we protect the integrity of your personal information;
  • your right to access your personal information;
  • your right to make a privacy complaint; and
  • how you can contact us regarding privacy concerns.

Registered Subscriber Information

Individuals or organisations may provide their name and email address to Gifted NSW at events or via the website for the purpose of subscribing to Gifted NSW communications. Gifted NSW will use this information to communicate Gifted NSW events, news, issues and to perform other activities related to Gifted NSW’s objects and purpose.

Member Information

The primary purpose for Gifted NSW to collect personal information about its members is in order to keep all members informed about key Gifted NSW events, news, issues and to perform other activities related to Gifted NSW ’s objects and purpose. Examples include notifying members of the Annual General Meetings, calling for committee nominations, and conducting ballots. From time to time there may be other reasons for contacting individual members that relate to the core operations of Gifted NSW, such as to conduct mail-outs for research purposes.

As part of the statutory obligations as a company reportable to ASIC, Gifted NSW is required to maintain a current list of members that includes their name, postal and email addresses, date of joining and offices held (if any). According to the legal requirements pertaining to Gifted NSW, membership lists are to be retained for seven years, after which time they will be destroyed or de-identified. Gifted NSW does not collect any sensitive information about its members, and any sensitive information inadvertently received will be destroyed in a timely manner.

Financial members of Gifted NSW automatically become financial members of the national association, Australian Association for the Education of the Gifted and Talented (AAEGT Inc.). When individuals or organisations become a member of Gifted NSW they are giving consent to Gifted NSW to forward membership to the AAEGT. Gifted NSW is committed to protecting the privacy of members’ personal information. Member’s personal information will not be disclosed to a third party, used by any Committee Representative to support their own business or career, or used for any commercial direct-marketing purpose without the express consent of the individual or organisation.

Secure storage

Gifted NSW will take all reasonable steps to ensure that members’ personal information is accurately recorded and stored in a secure environment protected from unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. Information is accessible only to the current Committee Members.

Members’ personal information is stored securely in electronic form and protected by password access on servers located in Australia. All physical paper files are stored in a secure location.

Storage of members’ personal information will be reviewed by the appointed Committee Member on an annual basis, prior to the AGM. Gifted NSW is committed to ensuring that accurate member details are securely maintained and accessible only by authorised persons.

Website and Social Media

Non-identifying information may be collected in relation to the use of Gifted NSW website, including the type of browser used, the files requested, and the domain name and country from which the information is requested, in order to monitor and improve our website and services. Our website may use cookies to assist in making the browsing experience better and to allow us to improve our website. Our website may contain links to other websites. Our privacy policy has no application to any other website and Gifted NSW is not responsible for the practices or the content of any other website.

Email addresses may be collected if they are transmitted to us electronically in an email message or through a web page form. All official emails to members will be sent from an @gfsg.org.au email address.

Where an unsolicited email is sent to Gifted NSW, the information will be either (a) de-identified and the contents of the communication retained where it is deemed informative or (b) retained until such time as a response (if deemed appropriate) is sent from an @gfsg.org.au email address in reply or (c) deleted. Unsolicited personal information shared through social media is the responsibility of the social media user, not Gifted NSW.

Contacting Gifted NSW

Any questions in relation to the collection, use and storage of personal information collected by Gifted NSW may be directed in writing to info@gfsg.org.au and will be forwarded to the appropriate Director for response.

Members may seek a copy of their information held by Gifted NSW. This information will be forwarded to that individual when requested in writing in the form of a printout of the database information. Individuals may be asked to verify their identity before information is released.

If a member has a complaint about the manner in which Gifted NSW has handled their personal information, they may contact Gifted NSW using one of the listed email contacts listed on the website, or the info@gfsg.org.au address. The Gifted NSW Committee will endeavour to address any such complaint promptly.
